Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Do Not be Deceived On The UKR/RUS Conflict.
PROPAGANDA BE PROPAGATIN'
This article has been a long-time-coming. I’ve recently been ‘church-shopping’ in the Austin area, attending various Sunday morning services and one thing I keep hearing from both the pulpit and in public prayer, are comments and condemnations of the ‘evil’ leader of Russia and his goals of needless death and colonial conquest.
Now, the same people who have, in poll after poll, decried the ‘untrustworthiness’ of mainstream media, are swallowing every fabrication hook, line, and sinker? Why? Why is war propaganda so much more effective than all other types of propaganda? I believe it is because it appeals to a much more archaic vestige of archetypes. Most all nations are founded with the results of a war or violent revolution. In our DNA, we have stored memories of loved ones lost, and freedoms won. There are so many lies built around war, ones that U.S. citizens struggle to come to terms with, for fear of dishonoring those who have served.
So with that, let me be straightforward in saying that I most certainly support our military on the individual levels. However, I believe that as an institution, it is more than patriotic enough to criticize the decision making of the Pentagon and Washington. After all, according to the constitution, war is to be declared only by the legislative body, and the legislative body is elected to fulfill the will of its constituents. I know, I know, that’s laughable now-a-days, with abuse of Executive orders, The Military Industrial complex and their lobbyists, and the loop-holes for war provided by NATO and the United Nations.
Without expanding on the outright lies that brought us into Vietnam, the two Iraq wars and the sanctions between, the Provocations of Luxury cruise liners with hulls filled with weaponry explicitly told beforehand… ok ok, I said I wouldn’t get into it. This article is about Ukraine and Russia. So let’s get to it:
Ukraine has been one of the most corrupt countries in existence. What that means is that money is ‘washed’ there. Money given to and by politicians go for other purposes, mostly stuck into deep pockets in an off-shore bank, but often times re-routed and changing hands many times, so as to obfuscate the paper trail.
See here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corruption_in_Ukraine
Now, to the main attraction. According to the mainstream media, Putin just woke up one day, because he has terminal bowel cancer and is a warlord Nazi criminal, decided to march into Ukraine and build a new Soviet Union.
According to Russia, which you probably haven’t heard their side of the story, since their entire culture is being wiped from the face of the Earth, their reasons for the ‘military action’ are this:
Ukraine has literal Nazis that have infiltrated their military and government.
These said Nazis have been shelling indiscriminately, the Donbass region since 2014 resulting in over 14,000 deaths, most all civilians, including children.
The military action was pre-emptive, meaning the buildup of tens of thousands of Ukranian troops on the Eastern side of the contact line were preparing to take the two self-proclaimed independent Republics of the Donbass regions by force.
There are over two dozen biological labs in Ukraine that are using ‘gain of function’ research and other experiments such as genetic targeting that are explicitly banned in International conventions on bioweapons.
Ukraine has always been a bilingual country, official government documents, road signs, etc. have been in both Russian and Ukrainian. Recent actions have declared that everything including schooling in Eastern Ukraine would be refitted and translated to Ukranian, and teaching the Russian language in schools would be illegal.
So, what of which side is propaganda, and how are we as followers of Christ to discern the truth about any of this? Is the age-old axiom, “The first casualty of war is the truth” not relevant? Well, we have options. God has given us brains, heart, and spirit to help discern what is true, but also to know the weight of these truths. The lives we have lived to this point bring experience, a great lens with which to filter our understandings.
One thing we must take into account, and I think we all agree upon this, is that in war, there are people who will fight, and there are people who will flee. There will be orphans made, graves dug, and children will die. People who had no decision on their country’s political undertakings will die. There will be refugees, there will be atrocities, there will be crimes— on both sides— no matter how civilized the war.
Take this into account the next time you watch a billowing and bellicose talking head on your news station. Ask them, the politicians and the pundits,’How many of your children are you sending to country X to die or kill for X?’ The insanity of these people, it is not of this world. One thing I witness often and have concluded indefinitely, is that our struggle is indeed not against flesh and blood. Demons, Evil Spirits, they are suicidal. They are self-destructive. They know they have lost, at the end of time, and want to take as many as possible down with them into the darkness. Misery loves company. This is why you see people, with eyes glazed over, shouting at cameras openly about how fighting a nuclear war “is the right thing to do,” in which, millions would surely die.
I will leave you with some thoughts, and some links before I end this article, and I recommend you spend some time looking into this more as it is a pressing issue of our time.
“Early in life I have noticed that no event is ever correctly reported in a newspaper, but in Spain, for the first time, I saw newspaper reports which did not bear any relation to the facts, not even the relationship which is implied in an ordinary lie. I saw great battles reported where there had been no fighting, and complete silence where hundreds of men had been killed. I saw troops who had fought bravely denounced as cowards and traitors, and others who had never seen a shot fired hailed as heroes of imaginary victories; and I saw newspapers in London retailing these lies and eager intellectuals building emotional superstructures over events that never happened. I saw, in fact, history being written not in terms of what happened but of what ought to have happened according to various “party lines.”

Below is a documentary produced by Oliver Stone explaining a lot of the backstory of the events leading to the 2022 Conflict. I couldn’t recommend this enough:

Below is a conversation by British Musician and Podcaster, Zuby, and Chilean Writer/Director Gonzalo Lira:
In closing, the truth is always more complicated than what can be packaged into digestible chunks and regurgitated on any 30-minute television or radio program. The “truth” presented as ‘news,’ is rarely objective, and subject to interpretation.
We know that Jesus Christ, in his sermon on the mount said, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God.” Instead of spending your time and energy on trying to figure out who the ‘bad guys’ and the ‘good guys’ are, and who is ‘right’ and ‘wrong,’ perhaps it would be more productive to both pray and write in support of more peace-talks, negotiations, ceasefires, and civilian escape corridors. Most importantly, pray for God’s will to be done in all things. That is, as modeled by our Lord in his prayer, all we could ever truly hope for.
